How to Use a Mobile Phone Abroad for Pennies per Minute via VoxOx CallBack

As a VoxOx user, you can make international phone calls while traveling abroad for just pennies per minute. That's right - pennies, not dollars!

Just make sure you follow the directions below carefully since there are a few things to set up, such as purchasing a local SIM card or local phone in the country you are visiting. If the temporary phone you are using is SMS-enabled (can send text messages), then no Internet connection is required to make mobile phone calls through VoxOx.

Before you travel

Download VoxOx and set up your account.

Try out SMS CallBack so you know how to use it. Just go to the Apps tab and click the CallBack icon, then click on SMS CallBack Setup to see how it works.

Make sure you have sufficient credit for the calls you plan to make while abroad, or save the most with our worldwide calling plans which includes nearly 60 countries.

While traveling

When you arrive at your travel destination, go to a mobile phone store and ask for a local pre-paid SIM card. Show them your phone and make sure the SIM card is compatible.

Sometimes U.S. based carriers "lock" phones, making your handset incompatible with a local SIM card. If this is the case, you will need to purchase a pre-paid mobile phone from a local carrier.

Make sure to get an SMS-enabled phone so that you can use the CallBack option via text messaging.

Update your authorized number

Once you have your SIM card (or pre-paid mobile phone), you'll need to update your authorized number, in VoxOx, to your new local number.

You can update your authorized SMS CallBack number by signing in to my.voxox.com and following the instructions.

When you are ready to make a call using SMS Callback send a text message to: 1(323)335-5555, with the number you would like to call. Add 011 before the country code when calling a number outside of the United States or Canada. The number format should be: 011+Country Code + Number (with no spaces). For example, if you wanted to call Harrod's in London, the content of your text message would be: 0114402084795100. If you are unsure what the dialing prefix should be, you can go to www.TimeAndDate.com (click on "International Dialing Codes") to check.

A few more details

Review the supported country/carrier list for SMS CallBack. If your country/carrier is not supported, please use the following number for placing SMS Callback calls: 13236499139. Successful use of the VoxOx SMS CallBack capability is dependent on a variety of factors, including third-party carrier services that we do not control. If you are having trouble with this feature, please submit a customer support ticketĀ here.

If you decide not to purchase a local SIM card or pre-paid mobile phone, you may incur international roaming costs by your carrier.

While on a callback call you will be charged VoxOx's per minute calling rates for both legs of the call (the call to your phone and the call connecting the other party). Costs vary by country, click here to view calling rates.

Standard mobile carrier text messaging rates apply when using SMS CallBack.
